Thanks.

I'm disappointed to say that after removing OOo v2.04 from my
Windows XP Pro machine and reinstalling it on a different drive,
I still cannot send a file via email using it.

Works fine here. You ought to be looking under Tools/Options/OpenOffice.org Writer - as you say, there are no useful options under Tools/Options/Internet/

Tools > Options > OpenOffice.org Writer has:
    General
    View
    Formatting Aids
    Grid
    Basic Fonts
    Grid
    Table
    Changes
    Compatibility
    AutoCaption
    MailMerge Email

The latter does not have a provision for naming an email client.

Maybe I'm missing something here. Why do you *want* to specify an e-mail client? OO.o uses the system default client, in our case Thunderbird. In Tools/Options/OpenOffice.org Writer/MailMerge Mail you specify details of your SMTP server, which helps when sending mail:-)
