You may have found a bug, or perhaps it is designed this way. I
just tested my 2.0.4 installation (Linux).
If I open a text or HTML document and check the statistics, there
is no word nor character count. I can only update the number of
lines. This is true whether I have one document or more than one.
However, if I then add a word or character to the active
document, then all of the values appear and automatically change as I
make further changes in the active document. The only thing that I
have to manually update (click the Update button) is the number of
lines. This is also true regardless of the number of documents open.
