To bring a dead one to life you must Insert --> Hyperlink then chose
Mail & News and then put the address in Receiver the text to be
displayed in the cell in Text under further settings

Hello
In a Calc sheet, I have a column with mail addresses. Some are blue,
underlined and with a grey background. When I click on one, I can
send an
e-mail. Others have the appearance of a normal entry and don't
provide a
link to my mail client. How can I 'activate' them to work as the
blue ones?

There is a macro here which will do that:

<snip> I find that if you doubleclick to edit the grey
one, it becomes a live hyperlink. doubleclick and add a space at the
end of the email address. <snip>

It's easy enough to kill them but I don't follow how you bring a dead
one to life.
I tried putting a cell into edit mode (with F2 and by double-clicking)
then pressing enter. I tried copying and pasting, then cutting and
pasting. Nothing seems to work.
