You are dead right!
After I installed X11 from the Tiger Installation disc, OpenOffice
works, albeit very slowly.
Its a little confusing at first as the first thing you see is the X11
command screen and you wonder "What the heck is this".
However I noticed the OO icon in the Dock, clicked on it and away we
went.
It took an age for the program to open and for a new page to open. I
hope that this will change when I use it for th second time!!

I am using a mac G4 800 and OSX 10.4.8
When I attempted to launch OpenOffice 2.0.4 I received a message that
I needed X11 for the program to work.
I downloaded the program from the Apple web site and attempted to
install it and got the following

I seem to be going round in circles here. Can anyone help?
Hello
The X11 version on the Apple website is for Panther (10.3.x), you
have Tiger
(10.4.x).
When Tiger was installed on your computer, X11 probably/apparently
wasn't
included in the installation.
On your Tiger installation DVD, you'll find the right version of X11 (
X11User.pkg).
Install this on your harddisk and all should go well.
In case of more problems:
http://porting.openoffice.org/mac/faq/installing/X11.html
mind also the X11 preferences (disable full screen mode, enable
Millions of
Colours)
good luck!
