Sam: I understand your frustration.
First, the version of X11 that is located on Apple's web site is for an older version of Mac OS X, thus it will not install on your Mac. Second, you need to install X11 from the installation disks or Tiger upgrade disks. A very good How-To install OpenOffice is located at: http://porting.openoffice.org/mac/Howto_OOo_2.0_MacOSX_english.pdf Please use this to install X11.
