You don't have to re-create it anew every time.
In OpenOffice, simply
- open a new (empty) text document
- in the Format menu select Page
- in the Page Style dialog set the size of your A6 paper (width
4.14", height 5.85"); the dialog will identify it as a "User" size
- make any other adjustments you may like (portrait or landscape,
margins, ...)
- save as an Open Document Text Template (e.g. "A6-custom-page.ott")
- close the new template
Now, whenever you want to have an empty A6 document: just open your A6
template, save it as a DOCUMENT with a name of your choosing, in the
format of your choice (.otd, .doc, ...): now you're working with the
document, while the template remains on your harddisk ready to be used
again and again (or modified, in which case I'd suggest you re-save it
as an A6 template under a different name).
