Dear support Staff,
I work at a community college and some of our on-line learners are using
open office for assignments and emailing them in to our instructors.
We were not able to open the file so I down loaded open office so that
the
instructor could open the documents to mark them.
Now, when I click on a Microsoft Word document, it opens open office and
launches the document in open office. If the document is a poster for
one of
our programs, all of the formatting is messed up. How can I stop this
from
happening. I would like my Microsoft office files to stay that way.
thanks,
Wendy
Wendy:
This is a file association issue. When you installed OpenOffice, you (or
whomever installed it) must have checked that you wanted OpenOffice to
open Microsoft files.
One way to open MS Word files with MS Word instead of with OpenOffice is
to FIRST open MS Word, then from within Word, open the file. (Using File
> Open)
To get it so that you can double click on an MS Word file and have it
open with MS Word again, you need to change the file association back.
This is easy to do. Find an MS Word file. Right click on it. Select Open
With. Check the box that says "Always use this program to open this kind
of file." Find MS Word on the list of files, and click OK. That should
do it.
If you use Excel and want Excel files to also open in Excel when double
clicking on them, do the same thing with an Excel file.
