To print your paper use "File" -> "Export to PDF" and then bring that PDF to your local printer. Otherwise you can "File" -> "Save As" -> Microsoft Word and get that doc printed. The fact that the best format for OpenOffice.org files is ODF and it is zipped, is not relevant top your problem.
