Thanks for all the help.
Downloaded the newest X11 update from apple (http://www.apple.com/
downloads/macosx/apple/x11update2006113.html) that claims to solve
the fonts problem... OpenOffice still shuts down after showing the
splash screen
Any other ideas?

You are missing all of the Vera fonts and your dates are much
different
than the ones installed on my system. I recommend re-installing
the X11
update.
If you review the messages at the mailing list archive, the
location of
the update file is available.
