You probably need to install OpenOffice.org. If Win XP has put
an icon for OpenOffice.org on the desktop, double click the icon to
begin the installation process. Once you have completed the
installation, go to Start > All Programs > OpenOffice.org to launch.
If in this case OpenOffice.org is a folder, select Writer (word
processor) as the program to launch.
May I also suggest you get the Getting Started Guide available at
http://documentation.openoffice.org/manuals/ to help you better
understand how to use OpenOffice.org.

WARNING !!! As the program is being installed you will see one page
with choices about Microsoft Office. The choices on this page
determines which one of MS Office file formats will be automatically
opened by OpenOffice when the file is double clicked. If you have MS
Office on your computer, DO NOT check any of these boxes if you want
MS Office to open these files when you double click one of them. You
will still be able to open them in OpenOffice.org also by using
File > Open and selecting the file. (Using the Control Key with O will
do the same thing.)
