Rumour would be correct I believe. Although as I understand it, present programs should mostly run under vista. However, I've recently been taking a very serious look at alternatives to Redmond's wares. Ubuntu linux in particular installed /very/ smoothly (even on a usb drive on my wireless, widescreen laptop) and offers all "amenities" so to speak (incl OOo) straight off the install DVD (which is also a "LiveDVD" so you can try it at zero risk). And it's /Free/ - although it might take a while to download over a dial-up line :-) :-).
