2006/12/5, Randall Northam <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:
I'm running System 10.4.8 on a Mac PowerPC (G5) and I'm having all sorts of problems with OpenOffice, having downloaded it only last week. When I open it I don't get the facility to choose a new document, all I get is an X11 bar. Although I can open documents in OpenOffice. It struck me I'd downloaded the wrong version. I went to the OpenOffice website and found I'd downloaded the Mac version which says it's for Mac OS X Mac OS X >10.3 & X11 Is this the correct version for 10.4.8? And if so what's going wrong? Randall
Hello Randall Normally, when you click on the OOo icon to open the program, X11 will open first, after which you'll see the OOo splash screen with a little bar filling up from left to right, after which you'll get a window with a clean Writer page. (other components, Calc, Impress: File > New > / opening an existing file: Ctrl-click and chose OOo, or chose other and find OOo) I suppose you have the right version of X11 since OOo is doing *something* (you can check by typing X -version <Rt> in the Xterm window, it should answer XFree86 Version 4.4.0 blablabla -- or click on X11 > About X11, where the answer is X11 1.1.1 or 1.1.3 - XFree86 4.4.0). If this isn't so, look at the OOo site page on this issue: http://porting.openoffice.org/mac/faq/installing/X11.html I suppose you downloaded the PPC version (not the Intel one)... Maybe something went wrong with the download or installation. An option is to uninstall and ainstall anew.
From the Applications folder: drag the OOo icon to the thrash From the Library > Application Support: drag the OOo folder to the trash
Empty the Trash Download the *.dmg again from the OOo site http://porting.openoffice.org/mac/download/PPCDownload.html Click on the dmg and follow the instructions.
