I should add that having the entire suite may have an unexpected, but nice,
bonus. Recently I had to recover whatever data files I could from a dying
hard drive for a client. The file system and partition table were already
trashed/gone, so I used photorec. It did recover many MS Office documents,
but the photorec software labeled almost all of them as doc files, regardless
of whether they were doc, xls, or ppt (something I didn't know until later;
but it at least did recover a great many files the client had given up for
lost).

Since I use OO, I used that to open the files up to see how many were
corrupted (*very* few it turned out). I was depressed how few xls files were
recovered, so I started going through the doc files first. To my surprise, OO
was able to open the xls and ppt files mislabeled as doc files without a
problem. I then renamed the files so they had their proper extensions.

I doubt this behavior would have happened in MS Office, and I also doubt it
would have happened had I only installed Writer. Instead I would probably
would have assumed they were corrupted and deleted them. I'm glad I installed
the whole suite.
