The file you downloaded should be an executable file (.exe) which you
run by double clicking on its icon, or on its name in a Windows
Explorer window. If what you downlaoded is not a ".exe" file then I'm
afraid you downloaded the wrong thing or the download didn't complete
properly.
What is the *exact* name of the file you downloaded?
<snip>
It occurred to me that you might not be able to see the ".exe" part of
the filename (referred to as the "extension"). When you look at a list
of files, for example in the "My Documents" folder, do you see things
ending ".odt" for OpenOffice Writer documents or ".doc" for Microsoft
Word documents and so on? If you do then you'll also see the ".exe" if
it exists. If not, then you need to make a minor (and completely
harmless) change to your Windows settings: open My Computer and click
Tools and then Folder Options. Now click the "tab" labelled "View". A
list of options will open. One of them is labelled "Hide extensions for
known file types". The little box to the left of the label should *not*
have a check mark in it. If it does, click in the little box and the
check mark will go away. Now click Apply (bottom right) and then OK.
Now, when you look at a list of files the extensions will will not be
hidden; that's what we want. It's useful to leave things this way
because techies nearly always want to know the extensions of any files
involved in problems.
