[users] open office 2.0 database - editing imported data

HOw do I import data from another file into OpenOffice Base so that I 
can then edit that data? I have tried importing from OpenOffice Calc and 
from a .csv file, but both times, Base opened the file in read only 
mode, preventing me form editing the data! How do I get around that?
