What I consider to be an easy work around. Import the data into a
Base file (Base1) from Calc or a *.csv file. Create an empty Base
file (Base2). In Base1 right click one of your tables, and select
Copy from the context menu. In Base2, make sure the Tables icon is
selected in the Database list. Then right click in the Tables list
(which should be empty at this point). Select Paste from the context
menu. A wizard pops up. Carefully go through the steps to create a
table for Base2. Makes sure in the Type Format window of this wizard
that you change the Column information on the right side of this
window to what you want.
When you have finished the wizard, you should not have the
information in a table you can edit.
There is a way of copying the data from a Calc sheet directly
into a Base table, but I am not sure I can explain how to do that in
an email.
