It seems that the tarball installer is indeed a myth. Creating your own tarball was supposed to be an alternative. The "utility rpm2tgz" is only available with rpm in some distros. For some strange reason, the outcome of the issue was that another issue had to be filed. That has now been done: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=72921 The list mentioned in response to the previous issue ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) is also a fiction.
