Seems that rpm2tgz is just a shell script using cpio see:

I am no authority on shell scripting, but I believe that if you save
this to a file of the appropriate name "rpm2tgz" and make it executable
(assuming your distro uses bash) it should run.

But what are we discussing such things for on Xmas Day? My tribe have
finished their celebrations at least - this is a defence from
postprandial somnolence..
