Dear Harold
Thanks for your reply. I tried to install the hash tool but it won't
install, saying that the version I chose (in the Firefox 1.5 beta box -
hashtool 0.4dp) is incompatible with the Firefox 1.5.0.9 that I'm
running. Do you know where I can get a hash tool compatible with 1.5.0.9?
Thanks
Nick

Any ideas?

First, check the integrity of the file you downloaded by using its MD5
sum. Details of how to do this are at
http://www.openoffice.org/dev_docs/using_md5sums.html and the correct
value for the file you downloaded is at
http://download.openoffice.org/2.0.4/md5sums.html. If you can't get a
decent download you may need to order it on CD by clicking "Order
OpenOffice.org on CD" at http://download.openoffice.org/2.0.4/index.html.
If the file is OK then the problem is almost certainly caused by
interference from your Antivirus (AV) and/or firewall software. So
disconnect from the internet, turn off AV and firewall software,
install OOo (tell it "register later") restart AV and firewall
software, reconnect to the internet. Never leave your system connected
to the internet if your AV and firewall software are not both running
properly. You need to be connected to register OOo, hence telling it
"register later" during the installation process.
If none of that works, come back here with details of what happened.
