Open source software has the source code available for inspection.  If
you're really worried, you can get the source, verify there's no
problems and then compile.  If you just download the installable
packages, you can verify the md5sum, to ensure the package hasn't been
tampered with.

Why on earth do you consider MS Office to be secure?  It's full of
security problems and MS has an extremely bad track record, where
security is concerned.  If you want security, stay away from all MS
software.
