I sort of agree with Kirill on the corrupt user profile - I had had this issue 
on a friends laptop running Linux and OOo 2.0.4, and later 2.1.  The issue 
was that it worked fine for user A, but not for user B on the same machine.  
So, I think it had something to do with user profiles.  Unfortunately, I do 
not remember what we did to sort this out for 2.1 (was too late in the night, 
and the gray matter was in abeyance - not to mention the fact that senility 
is fast catching up with me).
