Subject: [users] OOo 2.1 Default Language Setting is Broken

I have two computers: a laptop and a "floortop". Both run Win
XP Pro with all the trimmings.

The laptop has OOo 2.0.4. The floortop has 2.1

On both systems I run Writer (creating a blank document) and
do Tools>Options>Language Settings>Languages and then set the
Default language for documents to UK English. I then click OK
and close Writer saying Discard when asked if I want to keep
the blank document which has now changed.

When I restart Writer, in 2.0.4 the default language has
changed. In 2.1 it has *not*. There does not seem to be any
way to have OOo 2.1 remember the default language. The same
happens if I try any language. OOo 2.1 always reverts to US
English; 2.0.4 remembers what it has been told.

I am *not* running Quickstarter on either system. I have the
UK English dictionary properly installed on both systems. I
have the "Check in all languages" box *unchecked* on both
systems (Tools>Options>Language Settings>Writing Aids) so OOo
should only do spell checking in a single language.

Am I going mad? Can 2.1 really be so fundamentally broken?

Harold,
I sort of agree with Kirill on the corrupt user profile - I had had
this issue on a friends laptop running Linux and OOo 2.0.4, and later
2.1. The issue was that it worked fine for user A, but not for user
B on the same machine. So, I think it had something to do with user
profiles. Unfortunately, I do not remember what we did to sort this
out for 2.1 (was too late in the night, and the gray matter was in
abeyance - not to mention the fact that senility is fast catching up
with me).

Pradeep,

When I saw Kirill's e-mail I renamed my .xcu file and restarted OOo. That seems to have fixed the problem. Thanks.

Regards, Harold
