     I think we both missed the point. While prepackaged slide masters 
can be inserted into a presentation, created slide masters can not. 
However, that is NOT how you are suppose to add a slide master to a 
presentation.
     To add a slide master to a presentation:
1) Format > Slide Design
2) Click Load button (bottom right).
3) Click the appropriate Category (My Templates, Presentations, 
Presentation Backgrounds).
4) Click the appropriate template in the Templates list.
5) Click OK.
     These steps are listed in Help under Slide Design. Since you have 
Autumn4 in the Presentations folder in your /usr/lib/openoffice/...., 
it should be listed as one of the templates in the step 3 above. It 
should be a simple matter to apply this template as the slide master 
for the presentation or apply it as one of the slide masters if more 
than one is used.
