Joe - may I take you up on the offer on what you said - "Caution: this will
also find the first words of all headers, titles or any other text. If that's
a problem, there's an easy way around that, just ask.", and ask you for help
on how to overcome this ?
Because OOo Find & Replace can be restricted to the current selection,
you can chain multiple searches to achieve more specific selections,
albeit with some effort.
In this case, you have to first search for the running text where you
want to make the changes, i.e., excluding the headers or other display
text, then follow the steps in my previous message to replace the first
words only in the selected paragraphs.
This depends on having some feature that you can use to select the
running text. If you use a consistent style for your text paragraphs,
e.g. "Body Text" or even "Default", this is easy: just use Find &
Replace and under "More Options", select "Search for Styles", then
choose your text style at the top and click "Find All" (NOT "Replace"!).
That will select all the text paragraphs and you can then re-configure
the Find & Replace, with "Current selection only", to do the regular
expression search and replace as before.
If you don't have a consistent style to select on, you may be able to
use the text formatting, by searching for all text that has font weight
"Regular", or a specific font size or font face.
Actually, I just realized that last option may be the easiest, because
it can be combined with the regular expression search so you can make
the selection in one pass.
Setting all this up in the Find & Replace dialog is a bit tricky, so
just ask if you run into trouble. I suppose this will soon be more
trouble than just doing it by hand.
