This may be a stupid sounding question, but did you install it? It
doesn't run directly from download; it requires installation (and in the
case of Macs, it also requires X11 to be installed).
I ask because I've seen cases where OOo was uninstalled, but shortcut
icons were left behind, and clicking on the shortcuts produced results
similar to yours. Unless the program is actually installed (rather than
simply downloaded), and the shortcuts point to the installed program,
you won't get it to work.
