SOFTWARE:
I am using OpenOffice 2.0, newly acquired last Thursday.

FILE:
I am working on a HUGE (about 23,000 rows by 12 columns) Excel spreadsheet
originally started years ago in Windows Office 95 and migrated thru Office
revisions up thru Office 2003.
The spreadsheet has several columns formatted for US currency, showing the "$",
using 2 decimal places and bracketed red text for negative numbers.

PROBLEM(S):
When I attempt to enter numbers using Open Office 2.0, one of the following
happens:
- I get what I enter (enter "4" and it shows "$4.00).
- I get some other number (enter "1" and get $12.99 -- EVERY time I enter "1"
in that column, or "2" always gives $2.25, etc).
- I get some really screwy date-like format (enter any number and get
"11/0412/23E" or similar).

The problem is not limited to just one group of cells, but shows up in
typically small blocks of cells throughout the spreadsheet.

When adding a column including these cells, they add as a "0", no matter what
the cell shows.

When using "Delete Contents", only the "strings" actually deletes the number
shown.

ATTEMPTED FIXES:
I have tried deleting some the problem rows and inserting new ones in Open
Office - no help.
I have tried to deletes ALL contents in those cells and re-formatting them in
Open Office - no help.
I have tried entering numbers in these same cell in this same file utilizing a
different PC running Windows Office 2003 - it seems to work just fine.
I have even tried calling them names (it didn't help, although I did feel much
better...)

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hank
