I think you're confusing operating systems with applications. An operating system would be Linux, Unix, Windows XP etc. All these and others allow multi-task, though Windows doesn't multi-task as well as other operating systems. OpenOffice, like MS Office, is a suite of applications, which includes a word processor, spread sheet, data base and other applications.
