was by any chance the document created with Microsoft Word? I had some documents created with Word for which the outline numbering was all messed up and you have to recreate the association between styles and outline numbering levels from scratch. Sometimes, when still numbers don't show correctly it helps (for reasons that elude me) to switch the numbering off and on again. Cheers, Michele
