The usual suggestion is for you to obtain the latest verion
(2.1). You could probably obtain in by buying a computer magazine
containing a CD with OOo on it.
It sounds like a graphics card problem. You might want to have
this checked out.
Another suggestion which might work (no guarantees): use the F11
key twice with a few seconds between them. Using the F11 key forces
the work area to be rescanned. Sometimes I get some "ghosts" on my
screen from a toolbar I opened and then closed. Using F11 twice
removes it.
