First run offers the ability to associate the known file types
(.DOC .XLS .PPS etc.) but whether to do so is entirely up to the user.

Recognize that the default document formats of openoffice.org are the
ODF formats which are also known as Open Document Format which is a
fully open, understood, and universal document specification. Microsoft
Office saves files in its own proprietary formats and while
OpenOffice.org software is capable of opening & saving files in various
Microsoft formats, this is not the normal behavior.
