See <http://www.openoffice.org/dev_docs/source/sys_reqs_20.html>

OpenOffice.org is a multiplatform and multilingual office suite and an
open-source project. Compatible with all other major office suites,
the product is free to download, use, and distribute. You do not have
to be a member of anything to download the program.

Only if you tell it to do so. If you have any of the MS Office
programs on your computer, you need to read the setup guide before
installing OOo on that computer. Even then, it is only a problem of
file associations.

See <http://support.openoffice.org/index.html> for all of the support
available. Some is free, and others have a fee. There are also a User
Guide and individual component guides available at
http://documentation.openoffice.org/manuals.
