I forget how Nautilus works, but the hidden folders and files may not be
visible in the left panel. You need to select alaric (or other name of
your
/home folder) in the left panel and the folder will show up in the right
panel. It is NOT named user. The user folder is contained within a
folder
named something like .openoffice (IIRC, Mandriva uses a simple name like
that).
I just now altered one of the settings in my Options and found the
following
three files changed:
~/.openoffice.org2/user/registry/data/org/openoffice/Office/Writer.xcu,
Common.xcu and Calc.xcu
I know (from the User Guide or Setup Guide) that it is in order to rename
Common.xcu and I doubt that special privileges attach to the other two.
You
might look at the file permissions - they should all be rw-r-r
Perchance,
you do not have write permissions, in which case you need to use chmod -R
u+w /home/alaric/.openoffice.org2
Thanks. I have found it and it is set to CG Times. I will try again to
change it in Tolls -> Options and if that fails I might try renaming the
file, copying it and (with heart in mouth) edit it with emacs or
something similar. I haven't tried that before but I suppose I can try
anything once. I had already checked permissions. I have changed to
the Midnight Commander view which does show hidden files. The various
variant views in KDE all return a blank for hidden files. The right
pane is blank and the bar at the bottom says 'No Files, No Folders'

You may not have to go to those lengths. If you rename the file causing the
problem (while OOo is shut down), a replacement should be created when you
restart the software. The replacement file may (and should) respond to
changes through the GUI.
I might add that I made the settings in my OOo with version 1.1.4 and they
have persisted with updates until my present version (2.0.2). I've never
had occasion to look at them until yesterday, in order to track down the
relevant files.
Good luck.
Victory!! Thanks for all the help. There are some things about Open
Office I have problems with but the help service from users is beyond
praise. Thanks again
Alaric
