Harold: I guess I misinterpeted what you are doing. I had moved all moderated messages into a separate folder under Thunderbird. This DOES break threading. If you use something else to mark them, then that is something you are doing.
And to find that mystical value you have to look at the entire header. As I stated, with Earthiink's mail headers this may extend outside of the header buffer area and much to my surprise, Thunderbird does not allow scrolling with all headers shown (or at least it did not when I last looked at it.) In any case, it is up to the individual reader on how they handle messages and replies from and to unsubscibed people. Don't forget that folks sending through GMANE will also show as unsubscribed (or at least they used to.)
