I tried unchecking the "System font" thing, but with no results.

On my box, it sticks with the 24pt Vera Sans.

This is Debian, and of course the concept of a "System font" is unknown
to any Unix system. What is probably meant is the default fone of some
desktop environment. I happen to have KDE on the same box (although I
rarely use it), but when I change its default font, OO is the only app
that insists on its own choice of font for the visually impaired.
