Since you understand how to use a command prompt, it should not
be too hard if your version of Linux has the rpm program in it.
You need to be root (super user or Administrator) to install the
program. At the command prompt, su <Enter> and then enter your root
password. The word root should then appear at the very beginning of
the command line. Enter the folder (directory) where the rpm files
are located using the command prompt. (......>#cd ...../RPMS/). Enter
the following at the command prompt:
rpm -ivh *.rpm
This will install OOo in the /opt/ folder (directory). This will
install all of the rpm's in the correct order.
You will most likely have to create a link to soffice. It is
located at /opt/openoffice.org2.1/program/soffice. You should be
easily able to do this with a desktop icon or by editing the menu of
programs on your computer. Since I use KDE for my desktop, mine is
the K Menu.
