Are you sure that is what happens and are you sure that it is the spell checker that does it?
I have OpenOffice.org 2.1 and I have also used 2.0, 1.1 and 1.0, and I have never seen this problem. For me, the spell checker doesn't do anything until I tell it to. It only mark words as wrong spelled and then I can correct them if I want to. Have you checked the Auto Correction list? Maybe someone made a practical joke and added a line that replaces watch by wa tch... Have you actually verified that there really IS a space between "wa" and "tch"? Place the cursor somewhere in the word and walk through it with your arrow keys. Does the cursor go from the right side of "a" to the left side of "t" or does it jump directly to the right side of "t"? If the latter, then there is no space, it just looks like it is. If you zoom in, is it still "wa tch" or does it look like "watch"? Depending on zoom level and screen resolution, it may sometimes look like some characters have a space between them and that some of them are really close together. Sometimes "ll" can look like just one very bold "l". I hope this helps. Hm... now that I read your question again I realize that you actually wrote "or recomended to change to" and that's very strange, so I just tested it on my own installation (OpenOffice.org 2.1). I wrote two sentences, one with the word "watch" in it and the other with the words "wa" and "tch". I changed the text language from Swedish to English (Great Britain) to make the spell check work in English. It marked "wa" and "tch" as wrong spelled, however "watch" wasn't marked at all, indicating that the word is spelled correctly. Then I changed the text language to English (USA) which gave the same result. Maybe your dictionary is corrupt? May I suggest to reinstall your dictionary? Before doing that, make sure that the text you are writing is set to English (Great Britain, USA or what suits your needs best). Just highlight all the text (Ctrl+a if all the document contains English text), right click, click Characters and then select the right language in the font tab. I searched through all the faq's and didn't see anyone else with this problem, which amazes me to say the least. (ihad this problem with OOffice 2.0 and just downloaded 2.1 with still the same problem) The spell check. Why does it seperate words that don't need to be seperated (basically making it from correct to incorrect?) ie (this is purely example) watch will be corrected (or recomended to change to) wa tch. Is there a way to urn this off? Thanks a lot for your time. -Nel --------------------------------- Now that's room service! Choose from over 150,000 hotels in 45,000 destinations on Yahoo!
