Couldn't we accept that some people say "formulae", while others say
"formulas" ? In French we have the same problem with "lieds" or
"lieder", with "sopranos" or "soprani", with "maximums" or "maxima" etc.
Does it really matter do use one form or the other?

English is almost entirely a borrowed language. It's only polite to
import the grammar with the words. :-)

"Formula" is an English word (borrowed from Latin). The plural is
"formulas."
Saying "formulae" in English is pedantic nonsense.
