To my mind, John's postings touch on important matters - in particular, the
way the FAQ section is configured on the OO.o site. When searching there for
information on compatible email clients, I was unable to find anything at
all. The link to the page relating to email clients provided by John below
is not found under FAQ, but under projects ; how are newcomers to the site -
the ones who need help with such matters - expected to know that ? Moreover,
from my point of view, the recommendations provided on the page seem
slightly out of date.

My suggestion would be that the FAQ section requires an overview, based upon
the most frequently asked questions that come to fora like the present one.
Were this to be done and FAQ given somewhat more prominence on
OO.o:shomepage - e g, by including this term in the present «new user
& general
info» button, the same questions might not reappear quite as frequently on
this forum....

I should have been a little more clear.
What I meant was has anybody else noticed an uptake in the amount of
"Does OO have anything like Office" lately? I've seen a few e-mails
talking about Publisher, as well, but lately it seems to be Outlook.
And I'm not saying that OO should or should not have an e-mail client,
but I think that if there isn't, maybe there needs to be more of an
explanation of why OO doesn't have it other than what's in the FAQ
(http://user-faq.openoffice.org/faq/ar01s09.html#OUTLOOK). Your
explanation, for instance, or "at this time there are more than enough
e-mail clients out there, free of cost and free of Microsoft, that
creating or merging one into the OO project would be redundant, and we
want to spend our time on other areas, such as improving OO-MSO
compatibility."
