It depends whether or not you save the document in Word format. If
you do then yes they can.
Try File -> Save As and set the format to MS Word or simply File ->
Send -> Email as Microsoft Word.
If this doesn't solve your problem perhaps you could provide us with
a few more details such as your system details as well as how you are
trying to achieve your task
