I just tried installing OO 2.1.0 on my Mac Book Pro running Mac OS
10.4.8
and X11 1.1.3 and it worked without a problem.
For reference, I downloaded the version for Intel (and you should
have as
well). I installed OO by dragging the icon onto my Applications folder.
I answered No to both font questions.
Don't know if it matters, but I have 2.0.1 installed as well.

OpenOffice starts and it shows the dialog for the fonts, it
continues with the initialization progress bar but when the
initialization completes the only thing that is loaded and running
is X11.
