I always think of Calc as well but Jonas is probably referring to Writer. You can select text, beginning with the cursor's position, using SHIFT+DIRECTION ARROWS. Then, as Ahromi says, use Tools >Customise : Keyboard to assign keyboard shortcuts. The category you want is FORMAT and the functions are (in my version at least) Increase font and Reduce font.
