Mailing lists suit some people, forums suit others. I found this list
required too much maintenance to download messages. I had to have so many
filters and no one else wanted to help monitor them. I also had to register
two addresses - a spam trap for posting and another address for receiving
messages.
So I registered with Nabble (the reference given by Hagar de l'Est). I also
use Gmane occasionally to check something -
http://news.gmane.org/gmane.comp.openoffice.questions . Generally, my
registered address (digest mode) just gobbles up what it receives and
deposits it in trash.
That way you are not troubled by a lot of messages which simply send copies
of things to people who are deemed too stupid to find the replies for
themselves and you do not have to devise a whole lot of filters to remove
messages which are foolish and/or of no interest.
