Star Office 8.0 (SO 8.0) is very similar to OpenOffice.org. They
are basically the same program. The difference being that SO 8.0 has
additional filters for opening files that OOo does not have. There is
commercial help available as well as some proprietary parts which OOo
can not contain because of its license.
Neither of these programs place an icon on the desktop. Windows
does have the Quickstarter icon in the System Tray (next to the
clock). Quickstarter will handle all the tasks of several icons at
once. If you want a desktop icon, Start > All Programs and look for
the OpenOffice.org folder of programs. Drag the appropriate icon to
the desktop as a copy of the shortcut to that program.
