My primary reason for downloading OpenOffice would be to allow my children to
e-mail PowerPoint presentations they are doing at school to our home (as
attachments), working on them at home, saving the changes and e-mailing back
to their school e-mail addresses. Can this be done if their school uses
PowerPoint and our home uses OpenOffice?

While there are some things that OO Impress cannot do that PP can, the
difference in cost seems to worth downloading OO and trying it. :-)
