I simply want to print a list of 800 names by their last name.
I have checked "Getting started with base" but there was no mention of
the word Print there.
While trying to print from the Data Base originally, I was directed to
"File>Print" or "Print directly"
They were not on the DB menu. I found these on the OOo setup. Transfered
them to the DB 'File menu" but they were greyed out. How can I activate
these terms.

Thanks for your reply Russell
I am using OOo 2.1 with Windows XP SP2 and Firefox.
I have entered 800 names on DB tables for genealogy purposes. The
sort will show the duplicates. Dan Lewis has indicated that to
print DB requires a different process to printing records and
forms. I have done very little DB work, so am ignorant of basic
processes. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have been able
to reply to you because you included an email address. I am unsure
how to repy to Dan Lewis having no email address. Do I use the same
as for you? i am new to these mail lists. Jack
You still have not mentioned what you want to print. Do you want
to print out the names that are not duplicates? Do you want to print
out a list by last name?
Perhaps this will help you: "Getting Started with Base". It is a
chapter of the Getting Started Guide and is available at
http://documentation.openoffice.org/manuals/oooauthors2/.
As far as this mailing list is concerned, you need to address
your emails to [email protected] as you have the one I am replying
to. To reply to this email, use the Reply button. I have my emails
set up so that any replies are sent to this mailing list. Then
Russel, I, and thousands of others will see what you have written.
Anyone of us can then reply to you with information you need.

Jack,
Like you I found the Getting Started Guide somewhat inadequate and found
that I needed to learn at least the basics of MySQL to get to grips with the
program.
However to print you need to create a report. Right click on the table which
you wish to print and select the Report Wizard and follow it through. When
created, if you run it you will find that you can print.
BTW for my genealogical work I use Legacy. The basic edition is free and
will do most things you are likely to need in the short term but eventually
I found I wanted the extras in the delux version (abt $30). You can have a
look at it at http://tinyurl.com/36dp9o
