Thank you! It was my error. I was clicking on the icon on my desk top which
was the installer program. I can get to the open office through my programs.

You don't need WinZip! 7Zip is a free alternative (and better
compressor). You can pick it up from its home site, or Source

There are also plenty of other programs that can open zipped files.
By the way, why would you want to "open" the OpenOffice.org
download? It's an installer program and just needs a double-click
to start installation.
