o The moderator allowed the msg to be posted with no indication (other
than header information) from an unsubscribed poster. Perhaps the
moderator could also include in the subject line: [Unsubscribed]. I do
see [moderated] in some subject lines, but not all with the
"Delivered-To: moderator" header.

The moderators primary role is simply to stop the spam from reaching
the list. There is no ability for moderators to alter the original
post ...

o Regardless the msg's show:
        Reply-To: [email protected]
for each and every msg.
Are subscribers to this list (be it via email or gmane) expected, even
as a common courtesy, to also reply to the original unsubscribed poster
directly? The next step would be to telephone those that also include
their phone numbers in their post and ask to be called.

Refer below about unsubscribed posters.

I suppose you could call people if you wished... ;-)

o Responding to an unsubscribed email address is just plain silly (IMO)
by anyone other than a "moderator".
As per the above - moderators only monitor for spam...

From an email thread on this very subject some time ago :
"The current system, unfortunately, is all we've been able to come up
with in light of the limitations of the list. The list archives are
chock full of endless discussions on how to solve the problem, as this
seems to come up every six months or so. By far one of the best "work
arounds", though not a total solution, is the auto-response sent to
unsubscribed posters. Unless things have changed (and I doubt this is
so), and you might not know this -- that autoresponse is NOT generated
by the list manager. Enterprising individuals took it upon themselves
to implement it -- I don't know who the original person was to set it
up. Last I knew CPH was doing it?"
I understand that CPH is still taking care of this.

At the end of the day, it is better that if the poster is unsubscribed
that you copy them in on the response. Most mail clients support
filters that make it easier to look at the headers to do the
filtering.

Huh ?? Defender doesn't stop spyware (Webroot) ; firewall is only 50%
effective (Zdnet) ; UAC can be turned off and is annoying ; SP1 (incl
security reasons) due end of 2007...
