To change the colour of the text after you have created it, click
outside the text box. Then double click the text. Highlight the text
you want to change. (Dragging the cursor over the text while holding
the left mouse button down should work.) At the right end of the
Standard tool bar are two capital A's. The last on has a coloured
rectangle under it with the same colour as the font. Click the small
down arrow to its right to open it. You should now have an array of
colours. Click the one you want (yellow for example).
To change the colour of the background, click outside the text
box. Then click inside the box. You should see the six green squares
surrounding the text box. At the end of the Standard toolbar, you
should also see the word Invisible with a down arrow to its right
indicating it is a drop down list. Click this arrow to reveal five
choices: Invisible, Color (or perhaps Colour), Gradient, Hatching,
and Bitmap. Click Color (Colour) and a down arrow appears to the drop
down list just to the right. Click that arrow to reveal the choices
of colours you have. Select the colour you want (black for example).
With these steps, you now have yellow text on a black background
within the text box. You could just as easy changed the text box
background to a gradient, hatching, or bitmap. Furthermore, there are
ways of adding new font colours, background colours, gradients,
hatching, and bitmaps. You can find a wealth of information on how to
use Draw in either the User Guide or the Draw Guide by OOo Authors.
Both are available at http://documentation.openoffice.org/manuals/.
