Hi Lee
I want to plug in my Pocket PC, but have no Outlook installed. It requires Outlook.
Pocket PC's come with Outlook. And because the Pocket PC operating system was created by Microsoft, they don't make it easy to work with anything else. It is a strategy to lock you into using only Microsoft software.
There are third party (commercial) commercial programs available for syncing the Pocket PC with other software, like the one mentioned by Tom. (Thanks for the link, Tom. I hadn't heard of that product before.) It might be worth looking at.
And there are some projects (like SynCE mentioned in the article Tom mentioned) that look promising, but are difficult to get working at this stage.
By stark contrast, the Palm operating system is designed with a conduits synchronising system which makes it easy to sync with a very wide range of software. The difference between the attitides of the two companies is huge. Unfortunately, while Palm used to have the bulk of the market share, the tide seems to have changed in the Pocket PC direction.
At the moment I am feeling quite optimistic about the future as I hear of new PDA operating systems being developed. Many of these are using Linux as a base. Only time will tell if they are effective or popular enough to make a difference.
