How does one use the filters.
Most of the filters I could find required a version of word to be
already installed. There is a set of libraries
(http://sourceforge.net/projects/libwps/) that doesn't have this
pre-condition, but there only offering is source code which needs to
be compiled. If your up for a challenge of compiling on windows - then
this would be ok.

The other link provided by NoOp did have some useful information but
the only link that offered a converter without MS Office was this one:
http://www.inabyte.com/products/inafileconverter/

This appears to be offered as a demo product, but I didn't try to find
out what was offered in the demo -v- proper purchased version.

I would seriously contemplate that if people are sending you
information in this archaic and poorly supported format (that MS
doesn't really support all that well) you ask them to resend in a
'standard' format (eg, RTF)... Alternatively you could suggestion them
to download and install OOo.

I didn't do an exhaustive search so if your really keen you will need
to get friendly with google...

Huh ?? Defender doesn't stop spyware (Webroot) ; firewall is only 50%
effective (Zdnet) ; UAC can be turned off and is annoying ; SP1 (incl
security reasons) due end of 2007...
